Promenade Sainte-Catherine
Located in Bordeaux, just steps away from Europe’s longest shopping street, Promenade Sainte-Catherine needed to reinvent itself. Within an urban environment defined by the stonework and mineral tones of Rue Sainte-Catherine, the challenge was to create a breath of fresh air. Commissioned by Redevco, the project was built around the idea of an urban oasis, with greenery at the heart of the experience.
Challenge
The aim was to create a space that was radically different from yet complementary to the hard, mineral character of Rue Sainte-Catherine. Limited space and the site’s density called for a creative solution that could bring freshness, wellbeing and appeal without disrupting the existing urban fabric.
Solution
The urban oasis emerged as the natural solution. The planting extends vertically to fit within the constrained space, transforming a limitation into a genuine asset. Inspired by a river long hidden beneath the concrete, water was reintroduced at the heart of the project through a fountain that changes the lighting and atmosphere throughout the day. Together, these elements create a sensory retreat in the middle of the city.

Visual harmony
Particular attention was paid to the visual consistency of the shop signage, creating a harmonious experience throughout the retail journey. This approach makes the space easier to navigate and strengthens Promenade Sainte-Catherine’s distinctive identity.

An iconic façade
Promenade Sainte-Catherine’s façade features a botanical pattern created in collaboration with the architect and a specialist gardener. Planted arches at each entrance form a vibrant and sustainable ensemble, reinforcing both its connection with Rue Sainte-Catherine and its identity as an urban oasis.
